The largest city in Kansas, Wichita, is surrounded by some of the most productive agricultural fields in the country. Kansas is known for its wheat fields. The town was founded as a trading post in the 1860s, later becoming a destination for cattle drives traveling from Texas to the railroads, earning Wichita the nickname "Cowtown."
