Pembroke Pines, Florida was named after the many pine trees in the area. Initially used as dairy farmland, the Pembroke Pines area was developed in the 1950s and 1960s, followed by rapid growth in the 1990s as Miami residents moved northward following Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
